Fast Moving Large Orange/Red Lights Over Eston, Middlesbrough UK

Date: May 15, 2010
Time: Approx: 10.30 p.m.

I was sitting out with my cousin in her back garden. We were looking at the clear night sky, watching the stars come out when we saw a large orange/red light to speed east to west. It originated to the left of the house and moved incredibly fast and very linear. The flight path was a steady and completely straight line. This was followed by another ten minutes later, originating, to the right of the house, again travelling at the same speed and in the same direction but this one turned and once it flew overhead, as if to fly back towards us.

They definitely weren't aeroplanes as we did see a plane later fly south to north with a red pulsing landing light. My cousin's husband saw the first and agreed it looked nothing like a plane as it was a circular glowing light and going far too fast. I thought it could be a comet or meteorite, but when the second one came ten minutes later, that seemed a bit too coincidental. My nephew suggested Chinese lanterns, but would they fly in a straight line across the sky at such speed? I am investing in a telescope to look more closely at the night sky as am totally hooked now.

If you have seen anything like this in the same area please be kind enough to contact Brian Vike at: sighting@telus.net with the details of your sighting. All personal information is kept confidential.
